Domains Explained

A domain name can make or break a website. Get it right and everyone will remember it for good, get it wrong and they will never remember the name of your website. So, you should think of a domain that bears direct relevance to your site's content, your own personal name or your company's name. For example, the web site of Artec Hosting – an acclaimed ICANN-certified registrar and shared hosting company, is https://artechosting.com. This domain is immediately associated with the name of the company and with hosting services in general, making it easy for Artec Hosting's business associates and clients to find it online.

More than 50 top-level domain name extensions to pick from

But bear in mind that your private or business domain names do not necessarily need to end with .com, where choices are restricted. As a matter of fact, there is a practically unrestricted array of TLD extensions to select from, including .MOBI – for web sites intended for mobile device use, .TV – for media sites, .NAME and .ME – for personal websites, .CO, .NU and .WS – thought of as .COM substitutes, and practically any country-code Top-Level Domain you can think of. A UK-based web site might enjoy bigger popularity if it employs a .CO.UK top-level domain name extension. However, if your business is in Canada or the United States, .CA or .US might be a finer choice.
